Pendant lights are one of the most impactful design choices in a home. But placement is everything. Here is a room-by-room guide.
Dining Room
Hang pendant lights 30-36 inches above the dining table surface. For an 8-foot ceiling, go with 30 inches. Add 3 inches for each additional foot of ceiling height. A single pendant should cover about one-third of the table length.
Kitchen Island
For kitchen islands, hang pendants 30-32 inches above the counter. Space multiple pendants 24-30 inches apart. Linear pendants work well for islands longer than 6 feet.
Entryway
In entryways with tall ceilings, hang pendant lights so the bottom is at least 7 feet from the floor. For two-story foyers, center the light at the second-story window height for curb appeal.
Bedroom
Bedside pendant lights should hang 12-20 inches below the ceiling or 24-30 inches above the nightstand. They free up nightstand space and add a designed look.
